Hi Everyone,
Today's appt went well and the u/s was great! We got to see both precious little babies and two beautiful heartbeats! Both babies measured fine, although Baby A wasn't cooperating very well! Baby A was lying on it's belly and kept moving around and waving it's arms! It took the tech a little while to get A's measurements, but we didn't mind - we could have stayed all afternoon and watched our little ones! Baby B was more cooperative - it was lying on it's back waving and kicking - perfect position for getting a good measurement. We saw their little hearts beating away and we got to see their hands, fingers and spines. We also saw their faces and profiles. The tech got a good pictures for us of each profile. Baby A's heart rate was 150 and B's was 146, both normal. Since they are only 13 weeks, they didn't do a level 2 and check all the organs and skeleton. We have that scheduled for April 12 and this one will be at SSH, much easier to get to! She also could not tell yet what sex they are, maybe next time.
I attached the two pictures of the babies. I had to scan Twin A upside down because it is lying on it's tummy, that's why the writing is upside down. Twin B is waving in the picture. I hope you all can open them, we've been having problems with our scanner and computer, so I hope you'll be able to see them.
The consultation with the high risk OB was ok. She didn't tell us much that we didn't already know. Due to my borderline high blood pressure and the twins, I am at more risk for PIH (Pregnancy Induced Hypertension) and the complications that go along with that, I am at higher risk for Gestational Diabetes, due to my family history and the fact that we are having twins, twin pregnancies usually result in
pre term labor and my chance of having a c-section is higher with twins. The risk of growth and genetic abnormalities are higher with twins and there is always the possibility of losing one or both babies. So that is all the bad news, but it is nothing we didn't already know. The thing is, these are all possibilities and there is nothing special we can do to prevent any of it, just take care of myself and if my BP gets out of control or if I do end up with Gestational Diabetes, they can do something about that. She said they will just watch the growth of the twins by u/s, probably one a month. She did schedule an appt with a genetic counselor before our next u/s because of the higher risk of problems with twins.
She reviewed Zachary's autopsy results and the results of the tests on the placenta. As we knew before, there could have been problems with the placenta, but still nothing is definite. She is going to find us some info on placental abnormalities, but I still don't think they are going to find a reason for his death. She doesn't feel putting me on antibiotics will do anything, so they are not going to do that. I am still going to take the baby aspirin since that can possibly help with my BP and with blood clots and it can't hurt.
So that is where we stand right now. I don't think the consultation was of much help, but the u/s was awesome! I just wish we could rent one of those so we could check on the Little Ones whenever we wanted! :-) So for tonight we will be blissfully happy that we saw both our precious babies and their beautiful heartbeats and we'll pretend bad things don't happen! But as we know (and many of you also know) all too well, things can change without notice, so I'm sure tomorrow we'll be back to worrying and wondering if they are going to be ok!
We hope everyone is well and we will keep you updated! Take care!
Love,
Denise & Buddy, Parents of Zachary Michael b/s 7/26/99 and the Little ones EDD 9/8/00
